Odd starting problem
Hey guys, I just got my 96 Disco 1 a few weeks ago.....it's got lots of fun problems for me to ignore or repair at some point....but I already love the stupid thing.
So...When I turn my ignition key all the way to "start", it takes about 3-4 seconds before it will begin to crank. It doesn't have a hard time cranking, or starting....it starts right up. But, when I turn the key, the CE light etc comes on, like most cars do when you turn the key, but it doesn't even begin to start cranking for those 3-4 seconds. It starts up every time....just with this delay.
Does anyone have any idea what's going in here? THANKS!

Solenoid for starter. Or bad connection. You can try a battery jumper cable from negative battery terminal to frame of truck. If this improves things, follow real negative cable down to where it ties to frame and remove and cleans that up.
Also clean up existing battery cables ends.
You can try a similar jumper from positive battery to the big positive wire on the starter.
The starter draws almost 300 amps. So just a fraction of an ohm of resistance will drop the voltage to yuk.
Can also be a bad starter.
