Not sure if ya are still having the codes throw. As it happened with me after rebuilding the top half of the motor(long story why lol) But was having issues, and what had happened is somehow a couple of the plug wires on the coil packs had slightly unseated themselves. But past that even though it's been recently rebuilt, cant hurt to check the compression. But also as others have said I would check plugs, and wires(depending on how old they are) Has it thrown any specific cyl. missfire codes? Or just the generic ones?

Those big holes are where you access the torque converter bolts, that's why tabs get bent

I rebuilt and stroked a 97 4.0 to a 4.6 last year. It still has this same problem, but runs great with plenty of power (relatively speaking). I checked all the reluctor ring tab clearances with a crochet needle IIRC ha. I also replaced the crank sensor. It still pops up every other drive so I just leave the CEL on, or if I'm feeling industrious I'll turn it off with the ultragauge. I've heard of other guys with the same continuous problem after a rebuild w/o ever finding a solution. Good luck, and please report back if you figure it out.

Merry christmas to all. I'm back to fill you in on some of what I found. It's a little ridiculous but one of the spark wires was completely off, another wasn't fully seated, there was a break in one of the vacuum lines coming from the top pan, and one of the oxygen sensors wasn't plugged in. The codes were showing random misfires and oxygen sensor issues. She's running much better after taking care of the small issues but is still throwing codes showing bad cat issues. After fixing those issues and it running better i didn't climb under to check the tabs. Thanks to all who responded to my request and have a happy new year.

Good to know, are cats glowing or rattling?

I get a few codes but ignore them
