Recovering DII Owner Thinking About A DI. Am I crazy?
I've seen lots of D1's for under $1k that were good starter projects ...and ran. Why would you pay $2k? Is it particularly low mileage or something? I think on just about any ordinary D1 you buy you can expect to do full brake work, front hub bearings, some steering work, seal up the steering box, fix windshield leak .... there is a long list of other 'maybe's if the previous owner didn't do them. But just those few are a lot of work. One might just consider pulling the engine and disassembling and putting in new seals/gaskets and do evrything once and have access to the steering box.
It is that truck indeed. And it's as badass in real life as it looks in the ad. Runs like a top and rides really well.
Yea I justified the price with the amount and type of modifications that have been done to it. That and the person did the work. Every mod is something that I would've done, but it would've cost me much more than what the seller was asking. I'm much more confident in this truck than I ever was with my 04.
I'm glad it came along and tied it all together for you in one shot. The 04 could've been a great truck but it takes some serious cash to work out what LR decided was "good enough" to put on the street. I'll raise a brew on your behalf next time I'm at the pub.
Don't get me wrong. I absolutely loved that truck. It was f'ing sexy. I just didn't do any research before I bought it. I just new I had always loved discos. I overpaid at a dealer and ignore a LOT of warning signs when test driving and negotiating. If you go in knowing the worst then you'd probably be OK..... maybe
