I do not see a Check Engine light. Least not one that I recognize to be a CEL. I see a SERVICE ENGINE light. Is that the same thing. It is up in right hand corner and those words appear in Red.

If it is not that what does CEL look like and where is it on the 96 Disco 1 just in case my eyes were expecting something different so I didn't see it?

Also noted a portion of the ring lights at the ignition key... that stays red. On previous Page 96 Rover mentions this and speaks of a plug ..... but says nothing on what to do with the plug nor if that has to do with it not starting.

side note. I've PMed 96 Rover who authored the write up on previous pages twice now but no reply. His profile says he's not been here since July 2015. Just emailed him thru here. Maybe that will get to him?

Not sure why but red on right light on ring around key is no longer on. Could it have been on cause rear door was not closed all the way?

Answering my own question. In another recent thread (First post here )the CEL Was mentioned along with the Service engine light. Thus they are two different things and I do NOT have a CEL light showing.

That was my post in the other thread. The reason my check engine light was not lighting up was the fuse under the dash was blown. Once I replaced that fuse my scanner would talk to the computer and I got the yellow light. I do not remember the fuse number but I think it was on top row 3rd fuse from the left. Hope that helps in some way.

Thanks,

For shiats and grins I'll check that fuse to see if the CEL not being on is a fuse issue and not a component of alarm issues.

Any new info on this , I'm going through this same issue right now. Would like to know if you got it running and how. I have a early 96 DI, going to try the BLK/RED stripe wire tie together first then move on.

No luck yet. Tieing Blk/Rd seems to have deactivated part of the alarm. It though has not taken it out of engine Immobilized mode. Going to try electronically locking and unlocking the door again. Think I've got to provide a ground for blue to get the yellow/pink (YK) to activate door switch.when I tried Y/K I had not put blue to ground.

Blue and the YK are neighbors of one another in the plug that fits into the alarm box. Not much room to put a pin into both of these spots so thoughts are to ground blue at the plug over by driver door.

What I don't know from reading in here is do I swap the jumpers at blue and Y/K between positive and negative source or just just move the Y/K back and forth between the two. would assume have to swap both back and forth.

Does your passenger door lock work? Have you tried the lock/unlock 5 times. (or: 1 time ;pause / 5 times in a row; pause / 1 time)
