Default rust repair novice

I've had my fair share of mechanical work that I've done but I'm a newbie when it comes to rust repair and body work so I was looking to get some guidance on how to repair the rust on my 97 disco. I'm willing to learn and im already looking for a welder to purchase. Here's what I've found on my 97: you can see both rear door inner arches, the driver side lower door jam, the front passenger wheel well by the headlight which you can see the battery is peaking through and the tray is toast, and the last one is the rear pass wheel well which looks like a small hole.

You might wanna pull the carpeting, or get under the truck, and see what is going on with the floors.

I looked under the truck but it's covered in a rubberized coating of some sort.

First off, I'm not an expert.

Rust will always return unless you grind it all down to nothingness and replace the effected steel.

Practice your welding on thin gauge steel before you tackle the vehicle. Thin sheetmetal is tough to weld correctly and it's so easy to burn through or warp parts.

You'll want a relatively low powered welder.

Bare steel needs to be cleaned and coated with an etching primer before paint.

Definitely not a project for the faint of heart, but it could be a valuable learning opportunity.

It's quite unlikely you'll save the vehicle, you will delay it's imminent demise though.

pull the carpets and behold the rust, I cleaned and sprayed rust killer on the floors threw out the carpet padding and painted with truck bed liner, I will throw the carpets back in with floor mats though for now

my rear door jambs look the same I cleaned the rust sprayed rust killer or use naval jelly, rust primer then used metal tape and several coats of flex seal on both sides this will do till I get motivated to start welding on the body

the rubber coating underneath is either under coat or body Schultz ( basically same thing)

I agree with everyone on here about getting rid of the carpeting ASAP. The carpet and the sound deading holds a lot of moisture and water. Pull all the carpeting to get a really good idea of whats going on. Chances are if you have sunroofs they are leaking because the tubes that drain the water are disconnected, cracked, missing.
