I could. But that would mean crawling under there and pulling it, which isn't much fun right now. It's precariously balanced on some cinder blocks.

 

Well, last month when I got my rover I immediately took it to the car wash and pressure washed and engine degreased everything under the hood.

No problems!

This morning I opened the hood on a cold engine - spritzed it with the garden hose, and sprayed Simple Green on it.

30 minutes later I used the hose to rinse it.

Now I have a Check Engine light, a rough idle - that is when it's not just shutting off - and the cruise control doesn't work!

This afternoon I'll get the scanner on it and see what the codes are...



Just got this baby in the mail...



We shall put it though it's paces and see what those codes and real temps are!

Here it is in use - Initialized just fine and I was off! I don't know how durable it's going to be - but for 15.00 bucks I'm not complaining yet.

Forgot to look at the code! Guess I need to go back out there when the rain stops...

3 things make an engine run, spark, fuel, and air.. If you dont have spark it's likely related to CKPS or ECU issues. Have you tested for spark yet? If no spark is found - Unplug ECU and replug it in. Sounds silly but my engine swap started on a matching numbers ECU, swapped my old ECU in an it worked again, no clue why. Try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it. Rovers are fickle and some times it takes some silly stuff to get them going. You have fuel pressure but are you getting fuel in the cylinders? Pull a plug after you try cranking it and see if you can find signs of fuel...

If all else fails do a compression test just to check your work. Need compression for the engine to make power. You say you have signs of it but there's only one way to find out for sure.

 

Sprayed my headliner with Rustoleum bed liner and reinstalled. Pretty happy with the results.

Here are a few pics of last weeks install. Only about 8" of the 11.25" the shocks will allow before bushing bind. DOM trailing arms with Johnny Joints are in the works. Cones worked well.

 

I have spark to all 8 plugs. I have some combustion, the exhaust manifolds get hot and a sputtering sound can be heard. What's the best way to test for fuel in cylinders once plugs are off?

 

Crank it with the plugs in and then pull them out and see if they are wet and smell like gas. If there is gas do an actual compression test.

 

first offroad mod. i removed the front air dam and relocated my tow bar mounts to the bumper. this required reinforcing the bumper brackets. next is cb install then lift as family and money allows. anyone else tow their rig behind there rv? i figure with full float axles i should be able to tow it home with most common failures........famous last words

 

I got under my D1 and finally tracked down the ticking noise that developed after a week on some rutty forest roads. Turned out to be a loose connection at the driver side manifold to the exhaust pipe. Ticking went away after a little snug on the three bolts.
