Default Speedometer Not Working - VSS Reads Correct!

Hey Guys,

Before everyone tells me to look at the VSS I have confirmed, using my ultragauge, that the VSS is displaying consistent and correct readings. So my question is what makes the speedometer itself fail? Is there a connector that takes input from the VSS and powers the speedometer? Basically looking for options to troubleshoot now that I know the VSS is good. Also the odometer and trip roller work perfectly. This is literally an issue with the dial indicator ONLY. 96 D1.
Suggestions to troubleshoot?

Wondering if the needle could be stuck-possibly by a rubber bump stop that has gone sticky...I f needle moves freely, time to start checking for broken solder joints, failed components, etc, within the cluster...

The needle pops into action every once in a while. Any chance you have a link to an instrument cluster rebuild guide? Not sure how common this stuff is in the community. I have two spare clusters but ideally I'd like to keep the original (assuming it is the original haha).

Going to tear into one of my spare clusters tonight and see if I can gain a better understanding of what this may look like. Anyone repair a speedo before?
