You mean the stock controller? They are typically wired with #14 or #16 wires and at least a 10 amp switch.

Fish, did you get this figured out? If it's not too big of a pain, I might try it on the rear. It would be nice.

Correct. The stock Volume Up/Down buttons closed ground. I cut those two wires and one is power in to the switch and the other is power out to the relay.
I'm about to use the stock FOG light switch to control a Rigid Dually reverse/work light in the back. I'll be using a relay for that as well.

all the d1 switches are interchangeable, with one another, correct? i can fit those volume switches in my ashtray bezel? just using one spot with a cruise switch now, for compressor.

Yes and no.
Yes because the bodies are the same shape and they'll all basically fit in eachother's spots.
No for two reasons.
1) There are tabs on the switch bodies and not all will line up with eachother. This can be remedied by cutting off the tab that doesn't line up with a razor knife.
2) The switches at the top and bottom of the instrument surround have extra plastic molding for finishing.

I will dig out my box of d1 switches and give it a go.
worst that could happen, is i slit my wrist with a razor knife.
