Well that's annoying. I can't believe it's that ridiculous. Well I can but still. That's crazy.

The easy solution is move to Canada! Just bought a 200tdi converted D1 here in Ontario. Title was already converted to diesel without issue and it just passed emission testing with flying colours. And by that I mean all they had to do was watch for black smoke at idle since it's an early diesel.

Bit of an update, good info for those in CO emissions areas. So I found a little shop in Englewood that specializes in Rover diesel conversions/builds. They have been at it for about 5 years I guess, and they build Defenders almost exclusively, but they have tons of 200/300 TDI parts/accessories/knowledge. The owner is originally from Canada, and worked on diesel Rovers there. He will work on any diesel Rover conversion or older import.

The shop is Roadside Werks. I found them totally by accident while at a shop next door. I picked up oil cooler lines and rear seal/bearing kit from them the other day, and spent about an hour with the owner going through his shop and looking at all his current projects.

At any rate, he walked me through the process he uses to title and license the vehicles he builds in the Denver area. Looks like I won't have any trouble registering my rig next year. I got a $20 emissions test at a shop he recommended, and with my current CO title, DMV says I am good to go!

YAAAAA!

On another note, it's time to replace my oil cooler lines and rear axle seals and bearings - fun.....
