Default Vss?

Where is the VSS? On the transfer case? On the transmission? I'm baffled...

VSS is located on the LH side of the transfer case, pull off the 2 pin connector and one screw holds it in place. If you pull up your Rave workshop manual and do a search for Vehicle Speed Sensor it will lead you to a R/R procedure complete with pictures. And if I remember correctly, if you poke around this forum enough you may find a posting somebody did a while ago detailing a rebuild procedure as they tend to be a little pricey, I've never tried it but hey if it's broke and headed for the trash anyway.....

Found it!! Here's the link to the post

https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...ing-vss-56298/

The link in the first post brings up the procedure, i'd put it here for you but it's ridiculously long.

What is making you think that your VSS is toast ?

I don't think it's toast. I was having a mechanic do all the work in my car before. I was getting a weird surge/ lag at higher speeds and he changed the VSS, problem solved. Now I want to rebuild one as a back up, plus I bought a discovery for my daughter, so I am stockpiling parts for our cars and Armagedden!

If you have a Rover, you need a spare parts corner in the garage, plain and simple. Wives don't get it. Think back on what you were charged when you see how easily it comes out, and please post an update when you finish the rebuild, I'm curious to see how it works out for you and may just end up doing the same thing
