Default Whining sound

I have a 96 disco 3.9 efi with auto box. When the car has reached temperature and comes to a stop a whining sound starts up . Any idea what this could be ? The sound is quite loud.

Ok the sound is definitely coming from something on the fan belt . Will have a look into where the weekend. Any tips on diagnosing which pulley is the culprit would be much appreciated! Cheers !

Take the fan belt off and run it for a minute to see if indeed it is a pulley. It could be any of the alternator, tensioner pulley, water pump, PS pump, or A/C compressor. Tensioner pulley bearing is easiest so start there if you can't tell.

If it’s a windy type of sound, like a bunch of air being sucked or blown, then your fan clutch is bad. If it’s more of a grinding sound, it’s a bad pulley bearing. My A/C compressor clutch bearing made that noise until I removed the pulley, hammered out the bearing and replaced it.

If you can’t tell where it’s coming from, remove your belt and spin/wiggle your pulleys around to see if one’s a little loose. they should all spin smooth and straight.
