Default '02 D2 Fuel Door Release Actuator

Hi All,

I have an '02 Disco II. The fuel door lock/release rod grommet has disintegrated and the rod has fallen into the body.

I have ordered the new grommet but I cannot figure out how to retrieve the actuator from inside the body. I removed the inside panels but this didn't give me access to the actuator. I looked under from outside and saw the fuel door but still no actuator.

Can anyone tell me the best way to retrieve this from inside the body?

the actuator is bolted to the body. Did the rod fall down or what? We recently replaced my son's and got to it though a hole behind the panel real close to the back.

Good point, it is just the rod that is missing. All that is there now is the empty hole where the rod and grommet used to live.

We got one and i think the rod was attached to the actuator, I will look at the one we removed and let you know. By the way the new one did not work either, it is not getting power, will have to dig further.

I know that the actuator is getting power as I can hear it working when I hit the switch in the cockpit.

I looked for the old actuator, and my son must have it. Your rod became unattached from the actuator and you will need to remove the actuator and retrieve your rod and see if it actually broke or can be reattached. If you cannot get your rod out, you only option may be get another actuator. Have seen them on eBay.

Mine had just fallen in that tiny space between the fuel line and body panel. Very small, very dark. Maybe take a look. Who'd you get the grommet from?

Try a magnet very attached to a coat hanger wire to attempt fishing it out. The body being aluminium may help in avoiding sticking there; but not to other iron parts that may be in the way.
