Default 03/04 Slabs ABS ECU Plug and Play?

I purchased a used 2003 SLABS ABS ECU from a forum member and when I installed it and started the vehicle I got the 3 amigo's and also the brake light in the instrument cluster illuminated. I tried unplugging it and re-plugging, but the 4 amigo's came on when I started mine again.. I reinstalled my original and everything went back to normal with no dash lights. The donor vehicle the ECU was supposed to have SLS (just like mine) and I thought it wouldn't have to be programmed. Does anyone know if it will need to be programmed or if there could be another problem with it?

The codes in the SLABS Unit do not go away. So if you clear them with the proper scantool that should take care of any stored faults. More than likely the SLABS Unit came from a LR with all sorts of fault codes. Get them cleared and you should be good to go

Yes to what Best 4x4 says.

One additional thought: I have a US-spec 2000 SLS / ACE truck. No errors, no problems with the SLABS box in the truck. I tried 3 different known good no error v8 NAS 2003 SLABS boxes (SRD000150), all got a PWM error and threw HDC and TC warning lights (pulse width modulation - basically engine RPM) error. No ABS or brake warning lights. I haven't tried an 04 box SRD500070, as I can't find one for cheap.

So figure out what your errors are b/c I've spoken to other Disco owners who had SLS trucks with this same issue too. But others who swap the boxes without issue. Apparently the current theory on the Aussie Disco boards is a function in these boxes to code in the Vin to match Bosch engine ECU. A mismatch yields the error.

But the point is, for some they are plug and play. For others (like me), most definitely not. I posted here and elsewhere about my issues. So I live contently with the 04 CDL and 00 SLABS box as is... https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...s-unit-103238/

I checked with the folks who make Nanocom, they say there is no function to code in a new VIN in SLABS box with Nanocom, and weren't sure if it was even possible.

Thanks for the info nashvegas, I think I'll just keep my 01 box and remember to dis-engage the CDL when I shut off the engine.

I can change the VIN on the SLABS units (SRD000070, -000150 & my -500070) with my Foxwell NT-510 diagnostic tester. I’ve done this on a few Disco 2 TD5s and V8s. I honestly don’t think it mattered with the VIN change but the SLABS units worked regardless with no issues.
You can also change the suspension type on the SLABS from coils to air and vice versa like on a Nanocom.

I put an 03 SLABS in my 01 non-SLS with no issues. I did get the 3 amigos once after using traction control quite heavily, but after turning the key off and back on I’ve never had it again. I didn’t change VIN or anything, just plugged it in. I think I may have had to tell it (via Nanocom) that I did not have SLABS, but I don’t remember that.

I have an NT630plus and it refuses to save the vin after inputting it. The auto vin feature doesn't work either. Did you have to do anything tricky to get it to work or am I just having problems for some unknown reason?

I did nothing different for me to change the SLABS VIN. My auto VIN never worked when connected to my D2 but it works on my 2011 X5.
I would be interested to know if the NT-520 & 530 models can change the SLABS VIN also.
