Its a bit different from the one on Britannica Restorations. I have that line running through the center of the cap. I also have the flat bar that appears to hold something. I dont see a snap ring on it, but is not very clear that there there is a detention for the snap ring. I think i am going see if I can get one to fit. Any other thoughts?
yep...that's the same style as the one you sent me, a GE6570000 I'll bet. In the 1st video where mike is dismantling the steering box. It shows the bottom of the box
where you can see the hydraulic line goes to the side of the case vs what we have where the line goes into the bottom of the cap on the bottom. That fork piece is used
to secure the line. Note the snap ring in the groove. The one you sent me had that snap ring as well. If yours doesn't have that it *MAY* be why it is leaking. guessing...
you can see there definitely a ring missing. hopefully that is all my issue is. This video does not show this part of the re-assembly, but I am hoping it is self explanatory.
that's the same box I have. aside from the hydraulic connection bit, Mike's video was bang on as far as disassembly and re-assembly goes. if you turn your steering lock to lock with the rig running while
watching that part of the box....you may see it leaking out from that area. if the snap ring is not installed, all that is holding that cap on is that fork piece.
try getting a nylon brush and clean up the edge of the cap where it meets the case...mine was pretty crusty in there before the cap would come out after removing the snap ring.
the 2 holes in the side of the casing are for inserting a small punch to aid in removing the snap ring. it is a tight fit and getting it started was a task.
It looks like it is either a 72 or 74mm ring, i have not found one exactly like it online. The kit is $90, all i need is the ring. If anyone has one lying around, im happy to buy it.
mine leaks just sitting there. whatever I pour in the reservoir is on the floor by the morning.
Thanks for checking. I wonder what is different. In looking at the photo you had dismantled, I did not see the round, rod, shaped snap ring. I see the regular external snap ring. Did that work for you? I wonder it I can get a thick enough one to work. Or, one of these in. 72 or 77mm. I don't know why I can't find them in the US. https://ebay.us/m/GntmUP
