Default 04 Disco Head Gasket Replacement

04 Disco w/ 59k miles has a slow leak of coolant/oil. Mechanic confirmed it's the head gasket. Is $2500 high for replacement of both gaskets? Also, if I keep the coolant and oil topped off, are there reliability / mechanical concerns about continuing to drive w/out the repair?

Get if fixed, yes it can cause major damage. As to the price, the official Land Rover book time on the job is 8 hours, at $145 hr that's $1,160 in labor so $2500 is pretty out there. If it's not a dealer or LR specialist that quoted you $2,500 you may be paying what I like to call "the Land Rover tax."

$300 parts, $200 machine shop work. Many guys on here decide that all that extra money will buy some nice tools for the mancave.... lots of write ups with pictures and many indy shops are $1500 - $1700. If coolant is in oil (looks milky when drained, don't go by just the dipstick) it is reducing lubrication inside the motor. Problem will just increase at a faster and faster rate.
