My dad is going to check tommorow, he isnt a mechanic but knows enough to get him by. He said he will be able to tell right away. If I do have the newer part, what kind of grease do you grease them with? I pray to god, I dont have to replace it, but if it means my car running longer I will do it. The little that I have drove the car, I absolutely LOVE it. Its amazing, many people do double takes.

As far as keys, If I just bring in my key with powerlocks/unlock. An then just have walmart make a new key with the blanks you can buy on ebay. Will it work to start the engine, just without power locks. Or do I need to have a visit to the dealer?

P.S. I may do a little off roading like we have a 100 acre back yard with a pond and some holes and just general junk that I could drive down and around but primarily its just going to be my transportation to and from school/work. Also, in the town im in, there is no off roading places or anything so you cant really utilize the car, except maybe to plow through the winter snow storms.

If you don't have the driveshaft with the grease fittings, and you don't want to have to wait for the old one to be rebuilt, you can buy a replacement shaft that comes with the fittings from the factory. It'd take at most an hour to pull the old drive shaft and put the new one in. Took me a little while to get the old shaft out due to the limited amount of tools I have, but it took me about 15 minutes to put the new one on. I don't know what the price difference would be though.

That front driveshaft is paramount though. A couple hundred bucks for a new shaft, or a couple grand for a new shaft and transmission. You be the judge.

Okay got underneith the truck, my dad looked too. There was a grease zerk on the very front most one. and then another one on the shaft a few inch's down. However that was the only place there were grease zerks that we noticed, the other places where the shafts connect we couldnt see, or feel any. Is it just the frontmost one that will cause problems?

Yes your front driveshaft needs to be rebuilt with greasable u-joints, if you dont do this then you will be looking at $7000 for a new transmission, thats more than you paid for the whole truck.

Any automotive grease will do.

As for the key blank, yes you can buy one off of e-bay, yes you can have it cut at Wal-Mart, yes it will lock/unlock the doors, yes you can drive with it.
The remote is separate and you need to buy that at the dealer.

Can you post the EXACT kit I need to buy for the rebuild? I find something different everywhere I look. I will order the parts, and have it rebuilt right away, just send me a link of what I need to order and I got it. Also for the pulley squeak. I just need to order the TENSIONER PULLY, and not all of the others right?

mag, those double cardons are a PITA to get apart. If you have never done one you might want to find a good driveshaft shop to do the work. If they want over $220 to do the work then take it somewhere else. (that price includes parts)

A grease zerk on EVERY u-joint??

Woah... I thought I was free and clear because the shafts on both our Discos have two zerks...

Yikes, I guess I've got something else to order!

Thanks everyone...

Pat
