1999 disco 2 only starts sometimes
Few mins new here, sorry if im in the wrong thread.
1999 disco 2
he(yes he! Lol) is giving me some problems. Only wants to starts when it wants too. It tries to turn over but doesn't. I've been told it's the crank sensor but I've also been told if it was then it wouldn't start at all. Plus I've scanned it and crank sensor doesn't come up at all.
I'm lost on what to do. Can anyone kindly point me in the right direction. I can provide readings and more info if need be. Thanks for any info

1st, crank vs start. Crank means it spins, start means it runs.
2nd. CkPS normally fails when engine is hot
3rd. How many miles? Starter brushes begin to wear out about 140k. How familiar are you with starter wiring? Some youtube videos might be a good place to start.
4th. Do you have the RAVE manual? Link on my website, with wiring diagrams. Good explanation of the starter circuit and how it works in there.
5th. Easiest to troubleshoot when it does not start. You can jumper the relay socket in the underhood fusebox. Starts - look upstream or maybe swap the relay No start, downstream or battery wiring.
6th. Clean all the battery cables, both ends, D2 notorious for corrosion under the ground cable at the engine, sand both surfaces and then spray with battery protector spray after reinstalling.
7th. You can jumper the starter solenoid, if it does not crank when doing that, you have bad starter brushes.
