Default 2002 Discovery II

I am a fly fishing guide and needed a vehicle for some old dirt back roads on the Delaware River. I just purchased a 2002, Discovery II with 45000 miles on it. The vehicle is very clean and so far, everything seems to work fine.

Is there anything I should know about this vehicle. (i.e. mechanical issues with this model or year) I have only had the vehicle a few days and I am very happy with it. I do need to get used to the large turning radius, especially with my drift boat being towed.

Looking forward to hearing from you folks and hope to share some great experiences with you.

Check if the front drive shaft has greasable joints on it. If not, you should put a new one on. The stock ones fail and, if you are at speed, like to put a hole in the transmission. Stupid decision on LRs part, but easy enough to fix (if you get it before it breaks).

The weak point of these trucks is the cooling system. Watch your coolant level. Watch your temperature. Keep the system in good shape and you should be fine.

Welcome fellow 2002 Disco owner,

I've have Forrest for about six years (now has about 88k miles) and he has never let me down! I've replaced or serviced everything but the only problems were I had to get new front drive shaft, take the sagging headliner out, and replace the leaking valve cover gaskets.

Just do normal maintenance and have fun.
C'ya,

Default Welcome!

X2 to above...change the oil on time, fix issues right when they come up, and most importantly don't overheat it....seriously, DON'T.

Read me ---> https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...st-read-26356/

...and then, post many pictures of your Disco whenever you're in the back-country so we can live vicariously through your adventures!

Just wanted to thank all of you for your input. I am looking forward to running the back country up in the New York/PA border and will hopefully have some great things to share with you. Thanks again.

Between that and mentioning the Delaware it sounds like we might frequent the same places.

I hunt and shoot skeet at a club in Forestburgh NY. Great place for a Rover. You need it to get to some of the ranges.
