2002 landrover Disco2 SE
I have a 2002 land rover that has sitting for over 15 months I have more time to work on it lately.. Then truck been sitting cause I was having over heating problems.... I recently put a new battery in and last weekend I decide to take it for a ride around the neighborhood...my intentions are to give it a tune up but when returning back I let it sit in idle and within minutes it turn off ...in order explain what I'm hearing I went on YouTube and found a video that would explain what I'm coming across thank for the feedback I appreciate it...

It sounds like no spark or fuel. Test for spark with plug wire and spare plug, lay on manifold. If no spark, replace crank shaft position sensor. Common for it to show up as failing when engine hot (like parked at the corner store), may start up again when engine cold. Can pour cold water on sensor sometimes when not working to make it return to normal for a short period.
As for fuel, sitting for long period no good for that. Some gas treatment would be in order to get rid of condensation water in the tank. There is also a fuel pressure test point on left rear of engine under top of intake. Fuel pump, regulator, and fuel filter are all in the tank.
We can help with the overheating if you tell us more. One thing you should know is that the heat gauge will point at 50% from about 130 - 240F, and hide the fact that your ar running way too warm. A scanner or Ultra Gauge helps by seeing real digital temp.

Seemed to have all the right functions but when in doubt check Amazon.com for reviews.....i would avoid this one...
"I received this item and first the actual scanner did not work, but that is not the worst of it. I received a disc with viruses and **** to help (if that's what they call it) thankfully I had protection for my computer. DO NOT BUY!!!! Waste of money and potentially very dangerous. I repeat DO NOT BUY unless you trust your 20,000 or more vehicle to a vendor that would destroy your computer without hesitation."
Amazon.com: Customer Reviews: ELM327 Bluetooth OBDII OBD2 Diagnostic Scanner Can ELM 327 Scantool Check Engine Light Car Code Reader
Most people on here have gone with this one:
UltraGauge Automotive Information Center and OBDII Scan Tool
My CPS went this past weekend...did the same thing you describe...was running fine, died, wouldnt start for 20 min, fired up and ran fine...not too hard to replace (if you have tinny little hands) and fairly inexpensive, i picked one up at Napa for $70.

I use the ELM327 (white one)and the Laplogger app on the iPhone or iPad if i want to check what the OBD has to tell me.
I am able to get running info...temp, o2 sensors, speed, rpm, and other stuff that I don't look at.
I did not want to be a nervous nelly, constantly needing to know if I am running at 202 or 205 degrees. I check it to see my number once a week or so...All good.
Gives you the engine codes too.
Slick little unit.
