Thanks so much,

Mike I had my wife check and the coolant tank is empty, fluid is pink.

I'm having them tow it to a repair shop I've used in the past on my jeep. If something sounds amiss I have a shop a buddy uses on his Disco and Range in Denver I'll send it to.

Let us know what they find and what the estimate so you will know if they are not over charging you.

Again thanks for all the help.

In the future there is always my shop. I am a long time vw/audi tech with a rover myself. I can fix pretty much anything. You can reach me here or at http://www.vppperformance.com

Updated, Disco is at the shop.

They ran a coolant pressure test and the throttle body heater was leaking. Part is $30 and labor is $200.

Shop also recommended replacing two inlet hoses around the throttle body heater for $60 and labor is $300.

Seems on the up and up but I'm not sure about the additional hoses?

So glad it wasn't a head gasket, misfire or about 3 other nightmare scenarios I had running through my head.

Hell yeah they're ripping him off. $500 labor on the throttle body heater & hoses??? That's insane. A 9 year old girl could do it. RUN AWAY FAST man. Give them $100 for their time and diagnosis and then get the hell out of there. You're getting raped with no lube on this one...

Edit: Seriously man. Changing the throttle body heater plate will take you 15-20 minutes your first time. If you can screw in a new light bulb, you can change it. Please don't let them take advantage of you like this. Times are tough and they sized you up as someone they could convince to waste the money. This isn't even a case of a high price. This is pure unadulterated insanity on their part. Don't let them take advantage of you this way.

That is what I was thinking but I honestly don't have the space to do the work and time right now, I knew taking it into a shop meant paying for the service. I'm definitely bent over on this one but should I have them do all three or just the failed throttle body heater?

Skibum, I would consider ColoDiscos offer. He'll have his reputation on the line and I'm sure he would give you a far more reasonable offer. If not I could just as easily drive up there with my tools and do that job with you, for wayyyyy less. I have already done this job on my D1, and once I reviewed the rave I'm sure the job would be very similar on a 2003. We could knock that out in a couple hours I'm sure.
