I just used 2 jack stands and with the front tires removed let the axle hang. That was more than enough on a stock height D2 to get the oil pan off. Also don't forget the two bolts which are hidden up inside the rear of the oil pan (a lot of people miss those). On a D2 with a lift of 2inches = oil pan can be removed without placing the D2 on jack stands. When I'm on gravel or dirt I use 2inch thick 1ft by 1ft pavers under the jack stands and jack.
