Still working on the handles. Too many pits in them so I had to sand them back down and add some Bondo glaze to fill the holes. Hopefully finish them up tomorrow.

Hi CV. How did the flex seal look on the alpine windows. Do you have a pic ? My seals are pretty dry rotted and leave black streaks when washed.

Default 12/23 Update

@04disco2va I’ve tried the flex seal spray and the flex shot. I think the flex seal is stronger and low maintenance but it makes a mess the black Flex shot seems neater and goes on better than caulk.

A few other odds and ends to finish up from the paint and body work. Touched up the sliders and front bumper with Herculiner. Sealed the rear sunroof with black flex shot. Also cleaned the wheel wells and coated them with 3M Rubberrized undercoating to cover the overspray.

Finally finished up the interior handles. They’re not perfect but they look a lot better than they did.

Still got some old black trim here and there that I need to refinish. The sun down here destroys everything in just a few months.

Default Black trim

Cerakote works awesome for the black trim. Makes a huge difference for the long term.

Default 12/26 Update

Completed a few more things today. Cerakoted the front bumper and sliders. Also pulled the winch cable off and gave it a good coating of fluid film and despoiled it.

Lastly I ordered a new Apple CarPlay from Crutchfield. Supposedly I should be able to retain the steering wheel controls. I should have it Wednesday night so I’ll document the installation process once it’s delivered.

Costing the sliders

Coating the front bumper

Nice and clean

Default 12/28 Update

Still waiting on the CarPlay stereo to come in. While waiting I thought I would continue to do some detail work

1) cleaned up the sealant overspray from the alpine windows and the sunroofs
2) degreased the rear undercarriage to get it ready for primer and paint
3) sprayed black fluid film in the frame to give the frame a bit more longevity
4) applied some jb plastic weld to a crack in the cowling

The fluid film spray nozzle was a mess. It leaked everywhere and I think I got more on me than in the frame.

Waiting for the jb weld to set then I will sand it down and refinish.

Electric drill with stiff brush end to clean the tight spots

The fluid film kit

What a mess!

Fixing the cowling

Looking forward to the head unit install. I still have the stock HK sys - which sounds OK. Curious as to how the rear of the new unit will be supported as to not stress and crack the front of the center dash bezel.

Default 10/29 Update

Got the Boss unit wired up. Seems to be functioning ok. I have not fully mounted it because I need to fish two USB cables from the head unit through the dash to the center console and I ran out of natural light. I also need to figure out why the steering wheel controls are not working yet.

So pausing for now and will finish it up in the morning.

Watching this with interest. I had chosen a Pioneer unit with a folding screen but the price is sky high and hard to get a hold of.

I had one of these and it was OK... The screen would sort of flap around a bit when going over bumps on the highway. Ended up bailing on the whole thing and putting the stock HU back in.
