4.6 Engine Build Code...
generally there are internal code to designate the engine and engine management associated with each platform and to differentiate it from other vehicle installations. (when platform sharing has occurred.)
Ive heard of people using the serial number to look up the motor on "a" database and find out if it's a 4.6 or not, but never heard of a designated code. Doesn't mean it's not there though.
If you are trying to identify a motor, drop the pan, the crank has 4.0 or 4.6 stamped on it.

The closest thing cI an think of to what you're talking about is GEMS vs Bosch, but thats just for the engine management systems. All 4.6s are Bosch (factory, anyway), but not all Bosch engines are 4.6s; some are 4.0s and the Bosch engines were in both the P38 and the Discovery 2.
I don't believe LR does the designations like you're talking about though.
