Default 97 DIscovery, car shuts off at complete stop

As of right now, I received a call from my mother describing to me the Land Rover as follows:

The car just shuts off at every light. Every time the car shuts off after you come to a complete stop.

Could this be the fuel pump? Or a slightly larger problem? Can anyone help me diagnose this? Much help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Most likely a bad stepper motor, idle control unit. If so, an easy inexpensive repair. Might also check for a major vaccum leak.
Good luck,
Mike

Give us a year and model, as this will give us a better chance to venture an educated guess.

And read my tech info at www.eurotekapg.com for some more pointers and tips.

Regards,
Geoman

Well, here's some more information:

We started the car this morning, and it seems the car is idling at around 5-600 with some fluctuations when its warm - mostly dipping into the 500 area.

As far as Geomann's suggestion on the idle control unit - am I supposed to clean this? Or buy a new one? This is the black plastic encased thing over the throttle body, correct?

Please help me out guys, I would like to have the car running by the end of today. Thanks.

BTW. Its not a vaccum leak, we checked each individual hose and cleaned them all up.

Just for kicks we checked the inginition wires, one of the wires isn't giving any electricity to the spark plug. What could be the problem here? Would I need to change this wire? Could THIS be the reason why the car is shutting off randomly?

Thanks again guys.

Well it is safe to say you need a new set of plug wires, the coil packs are pretty good and usually don't fail.
I would suggest you order a set of Magnacor 8 mm wires from http://www.roverconnection.com/ and depending on the mileage probably throw on a set of Bosh Platium Plus 4 plugs.
Once this is done we can go to the next step depending on how the truck is running and may clean the idle control and throttle body.
