Default 99 Disco cdl replacement

I just swapped a old electric CDL selector on my disco for a manual one from the junk yard. the installation went pretty easy. I am just looking for a few ideas on how to tell if it is locking. My light does not come on, I understand I need a switch possibly to have the light come on but do I need the switch for it to lock. Also are there any tutorials on the proper way to use your CDL?
Thanks for your time.

P.S. While I was at the junkyard I picked up an extra CDL setup. If any one in the Seattle/Tacoma area wants it.

Maybe a bad detection switch? Mine went bad and after I replaced it all was well and the light came on. Very easy fix. Just a lot of work since you must tear out the center console. Do you have a lift? When your CDL is engaged if you turn your wheel full stop left or right and drive, it should feel like your front end is binding. However, if you have a lift/larger tires, that binding feeling is MUCH harder to detect in my experience. I could never tell if my CDL was locked until I replaced the detection switch.

But in answer to your question, no, you do not need the switch to engage your CDL. It will only stop the light from coming on. Your CDL will still engage just fine.

By the way, my wife and I are moving to Seattle in December. I know there's lots of outdoorsy stuff up there, but any really good trails to get familiar with?

I work in Seattle as well. Sorry I got really busy with my new job. I love Washington! There are awesome networks of forestry roads all over the mountains. I am trying to plan a trip on the "wabdr" ,it goes from Canada to Oregon, in the mountains. There are a couple of clubs here as well but I just have been to busy lately. I tried what you said with the CDL but I cant tell at all. I do have a lift and larger tires though. I still have to fix my amigos and I'm researching an 1174 code.

I installed an Austrialian made solenoid to my 99 D2 and have never looked back.
It is so nine to slow down, take your foot off the gas, push the button and go climbing with out needing to move the shifter.

I never new the electric one was there. When I first saw it I new what it was but the solenoids rubber boots were falling off it and it wouldn't operate. So I continued with the swap.
