Default 99 Disco Purchase Questions

Hello all, I have a few questions whenever you all have time to lend some advise. I purchased a 1999 Discovery for $1500 recently. The vehicle has 147K miles on it and is in good condition with the normal wear and tear of a 99. The previous owner is a LR master mechanic and per him, maintenance has been kept at tip top. This vehicle is not going to be a daily driver and will be used for the weekends and a hunting/camping vehicle. Does anyone have any advice on the gauges that are out there to monitor the temp levels? I have seen some talk about them and def want to purchase whatever is recommend. It is a 99 so I believe there is a bolt that can be turned underneath to lock the center diff? I am going to replace the breaks first thing, if there is anything else that you all recommend to stay on top of please let me know and I appreciate all the advise. Have a good one!

Some people run ultra gauges other run bluetooth sending units from the OBD2 port. Just a matter of preference. I would recommend a full fluid flush (trans, trasnfer case, diffs, and coolant). then usually just making sure fluid levels are still good as you drive it.

I have a Scangauge E on my 99D2 that I use to monitor coolant temp and voltage. It was $100 from amazon and it comes with a Velcro strip for mounting, there is a convenient space just to the left of the dash where it fits in right next to the A pillar. I love the peace of mind it gives me for coolant temps and was/is very useful for monitoring the charging health. Although it was anxiety inducing when my alternator failed and all I could do was watch the voltage fall as I tried to get home (spoiler alert: I didn’t make it).

Oh yeah, there is a 10 mm “nipple” that can be turned for the CDL lock. You can access it from under the truck, but probably don’t want to, there are lots of CDL linkage tutorials available. I’m meaning to get around to the electric one some day done by Jacob Feueratein!

I'd advise to check your front driveshaft to make sure it has been replaced with a driveshaft with 5 grease nipples and has been greased.
