After 2 months of ownership, my Landie is dead

Yeah...I know that with some more money or whatever I could make it work. Realistically spending $11k on a new motor would be cheaper than buying a new car.
I just can't imagine putting another 11k (a total of 22k now) into a truck worth 6k. The value doesn't make sense in my head.
The pistons are top hatted, and otherwise the engine runs great and you would never know that it's going to die someday until I told you.

People can call em 6K vehicles all day long, but go price a new 46K Toyota 4Runner TRD, and all of the sudden 11K on a motor on an otherwise perfect vehicle that is just as capable doesn't seem so bad.
Any vehicle isn't worth what you paid for it once you roll off the lot, but while older LR's don't hold their value as well as newer ones they have a lot more classic looks, and are easier to fix.

I left out the part about the quality control of the later 4.6's. Yes, the bore is the same, but everything I have read about the later 4.6 blocks indicates that the quality control was spotty at best so the thickness of the block surrounding the waterjackets varies quite a bit. Regardless, I would think a properly installed insert and a stud should hold so if it is pulling out then I don't see any way it could be fixed. If the block has top-hat liners then it's a shame that it has to be junked because of failed threads at a stud location.

$3000 on a rover? Nope wouldn't do it.
I'm confused as to the miss, what's the compression?

You can find another LR anyday, but you could be right back in the same boat.... Replacing the engine, or rebuilding = you know without a doubt the engine is good.
