Default alternator sounds like bumblebee

96 D1 with 75k on it

Recently, when the car is idling or moving, the alternator is making a humming sound, not unlike a large bee under the hood. It changes pitch with changing throttle position.

Any thoughts?

Is the radio off - sometimes alternator noise will come through the radio, especially in AM mode.

If it (the alternator) is still within warranty I would recommend bringing it back to the supplier and getting a new one. Sounds like a bad bearing.
