Default Alu coolant header tank

Hi

Your splitting header tank troubles are over .................. if you are rich or desperate. Admittedly it's for a TD5 Defender but I'm sure with ingenuity it could be fitted to a D2.

Imagine having to take the cap off every time to check the level.

Hi cappedup,

That little detail did cross my mind also . Fortunately in 13 years I have never needed to replace my reservoir or the pressure cap but on the forum here I've read that so many seem to run into difficulties with the reservoir splitting and the cap causing prolems.

I've had mine 16 years but I live in fear of the next malfunction. So, what causes them to Crack? Cold (no worries) or heat (eek!)?

I think, like most things plastic, it's part luck, part heat and part vibration. The alu tank would be far better if it had a sight glass so avoiding the need to remove the cap to check the level.
