Default Antifreeze.

Any issues using a G-05 OAT-Hybrid antifreeze in a Rover engine? I'm assuming it's fine, especially considering the issues that people seem to think happen with normal DexCool OAT based antifreeze. I need coverage from -60C up to about +55C in a typical year so I'm suspecting I'll need to mix 64/35 or so.

What about switching to pure PG vs using an OAT at all? I've found lost of 'ideas' on-line but no real science. After having Bosch tell me I could use their plugs in a 4.6 if it's in a 2001 Range Rover but not in a 2003 Discovery this week I'm learning to distrust automakers as much as audio and computer vendors.

Anyone know offhand what the rad cap is rated at pressure wise? Amsoil on their PG coolant gives a 40F increase in boiling point ratings with a 15 psi cap. From what I've been reading I'm more likely to want to run PG at about 65-70% and change it every year than risk the sludge etc issues they've seen with DexCool.

All rad caps are 14 to 15 psi .

The big problem with Dex Coolis most people did not keep it full
and air would get in the system and there in started the sludge.
Most thought that it said 100k and 150k it was nothing they had ot think about.

The new gold antifreeze is a good alternative, I don't know what Disco II's use
I use the old green stuff and change it every year for my Disco I.

There is an on going law suit against GM because of the Dexcool, but till I heaqr differently, I am staying with it.
With my normal 50/50 mix, I have bveen running trails in Death Valley and doing the cold morning Denver start ups at -15 to -20 degrees with no problem.
I am thoug thinking about adding one of the coolant additives to my radiator to extend i's range a little.

Yeah, some of my trips this winter will involve below -40C/F. The Amsoil PG coolant looks like a good option for me.

Is it bad to run straight distilled water with a couple bottles of Redline Water Wetter? Where I live the temps range between 70-90F year round, Ive used this same mix on iron block cars in the past with no issues, this is my first aluminum block vehicle so Im in the dark a bit.

You still need to be able to keep your head gaskets from failing as well as your water pump and distilled water and a coolant additive won't do that.
