ANY way to start 95 disco?
I ahve a 1995 Land Rover Discovery I with the 3.9 About 8 months ago broke the key off in the door, nad it was the only key I had, so the locksmith called a dealership, got the key code and cut me a new one, but the new one would not fit perfectly into the ignition. You have to pull it out just a little bit for it to start. Well I have been using this key since February 06. Every now and again, it will become stubborn, and it may take me about 10 minutes of jiggling to get the key to turn in the ignition. Well This past Friday night, I was jiggling the key and it broke off in the ignition. I had a locksmith come out and remove the old key, at which time I put a spare key in (A spare made from the previous locksmith's key) and it broke off. He removed that spare. Now I have been very careful with my remaining spare key, but have not been able to get the key to turn. I ahve combed the web and the best price I can find on an ignition assembly is $410 for an automatic. Now the big problem, I have no back up vehicle and I am staying with my parents which is 4 hours from where I work. I also don't have enough money to pay the $410 for a new assembly right now, it being Christmas, and me being fresh out of college with a not so great job. So I am kinda stranded at my parents house. Is there ANY way possible to get the thing to start without buying the assembly. I mena I have heard alot of things from my military buddies, but am scared to try them on a Land Rover. I ahve heard stick a flat head screwdriver in the ignition and beat it with a hammer until it will turn? I am jsut afraid that this will not unlock the steering wheel and gear shifter...Also will this mess up the Anti-Theft system? Also ahve heard to jerk the steering wheel really hard, like trying to turn it, until it breaks loose, then put the key in and it should start, but again I am afraid to try this also, unless someone has tried it before and it worked. I know it may mess something up, but it may be January before I can afford the lock assembly. Also was wondering about towing the vehicle. How does one tow an AWD vehicle that is locked in Park? Seems like none of the 4 tires would roll? I am thinking about tomorrow driving two hours to Memphis (the closet dealership) with the VIN number in my grandpa's car, and seeing if they can cut me a new key and maybe that will work...but since my budget is limited if this doesnt work I wont be able to afford a tow after this...please help!
