Bad cam sensor?
#11
Exactly what I was thinking. It looks simple enough from bottom side (per Rave) once the skid plate is off. Might be worth removing and seeing if all those miles have resulted in a few tiny bits of steel stuck to it.

If memory serves, it has two bolts on the sensor and then one bolt holds a keeper for the connector. The only difficulty is the inability to see if you are removing it from underneath the truck.

Resurrecting this thread b/c I just changed my cam position sensor today. Did it from the top of the truck w/o removing the oil filter or draining any coolant.
Do it this way:
- Remove top fan shroud
- Remove fan
- Remove lower fan shroud
All of these come out past the top coolant hose easily.
- Loosen 3 water pump pulley bolts (10mm)
- Loosen 3 power steering pulley bolts (10mm)
- Remove serpentine belt
- Remove WP and PS drive pulleys
- Remove belt tensioner
- Remove both belt idlers
Now you have some room to work.
- Remove cam pos sensor pinch bracket (8mm open end wench)
- Remove cam pos wiring connector bracket (11mm 1/4" socket with swivel and extension)
Carefully pull the camshaft position sensor out of it's hole and thread behind the crank pulley to the front of the engine. Now, easily squeeze the wiring connector and free the sensor from the harness.
Enjoy.
