Default Bell Housing Inspection Port

hey Guys, I'm pretty sure I have a rear main seal leak and I've read a few guys here mention to check the bell housing inspection port. It's supposed to be dry right? If I do find fluid in there what are all of the possible causes or is the main seal the only culprit? Thanks.

Main seal, if fluid is not red. But - the White Shepherd product has fixed many seal leaks. Here's pix of an O ring soaked in it for a couple of days.
