Question Black rtv on oil pump cover?

I have seen some videos that use rtv and some that dont on the oil pump cover. My gasket looks like this

Should I use the rtv on both sides of the gasket?

I also got some of this for the bolt threads

this will work, right?

Workshop manual (12-2-41) specifically says dry. See attached page.

If you don't already have the workshop manual you can find it in the google drive linked in my signature in the D2 section.

Manual says dry....but I have always put Permatex form-a-gasket No. 2, the non-hardening version, on paper gaskets.

I know it says dry but I did put a very thin coating on each side of the gasket. No issues after 10k miles.

Check the RAVE, you need to blobs right where the front cover meets the block. The key to keeping the oil pan from leaking is following the bolt sequence in the RAVE not over tightening them.

RAVE is your friend. You are doing a pretty large and technical job. Better to read up in advance than have to tear into it again.
