So I checked out another Disco today to replace mine. Wanted to see thoughts on it. Here is the info:
03 SE with almost 90k
One owner, no accidents
Out of bad vin range
I ran it today a bit. Had a trouble code for 0153 for o2 sensor.
Not sure if gaskets had been done but I assume not.
Temps seemed OK. Coolant level was a touch low as was oil
Coolant didn't seem pressurized, exhaust didn't smell sweet and didn't notice coolant in oil
The truck had the ACE system, but the ace pump was not on the truck and the light was not on the dash, so I assume someone took the entire system out and pulled the fuse for the system so the light doesn't come on.
I should be able to get the truck for around $6k. For the ACE, as long as the lines are good, I could use the pump from my truck. I would want to do the head gaskets, but have a Rover type shop do them as I simply don't have the time. I'm thinking whatever I could get for selling my 00 might be enough to cover the costs of work, or even find a shop that would take the truck in trade for the work.
A couple questions: I had put new brakes all around this year, would the new pads swap over? I see some different part numbers for the years.
I have heard the front prop shaft will go from the 00 to the 03, but maybe not vice Versa. Would love to swap those out too if possible.
Also, I know the ladder would swap but what about the brush guard? I always see the plastic looking ones on the newer discos. I have the old metal type.
I have an entire new cooling system, and would love to swap in the new rad/fan/pump/hoses but again, I see some different part numbers.
Just figure I would poll the experts on the truck, and some of the parts to swap. Any thoughts?

 

First thing to swap is the Ultra Gauge....

I think you could get more for your 00 than an indy HG job.

 

Yep, brought it along for the test drive! As far as the 00, I'm note sure how much more I would get. The hood is still dinged up from the fan, the wifey pushed in the drivers door a bit, and she is now at 140k. I'd swap the wheels (same but I would want my newer a/t tires over the highway ones), the head unit, the battery and maybe some of the other things. She has served me well, and even if I didn't take the other stuff out, I just don't think I could pull all that much money out of her.

 

And another question....are there any tell tale ways to see if the head gaskets have been done? I'm only assuming no, but do not know for sure. This was bought off a BMW dealer as a trade in.

 

Look to see how cleen the heads are compared to block , just sayin blamo.

 

In usual fashion, the engine compartment was cleaned prior to being put for sale so hard to tell much.
