Okay here we go again. Disco has been at the shop since yesterday. Same problem I was having the fluid gushes out of the fill hole and now the truck will not even go into gear. Is it possible that the pump went bad? They drained the fluid, and ran the truck while running and put 3.5 quarts in it and then tried to top it off and all the fluid gushed out of the fill hole when it was removed. Thats the same thing that happened to me. Any ideas?

 

Sounds like maybe it's not picking up the oil? It may sound stupid but maybe a cloggedish filter isn't letting the tranny pick up fluid?

 

ZG no does not sound stupid at all. I had the filter changed about 10k ago but I think I will have them drop the pan and check the O rings and filter again. It may be clogged and that would cause this issue. Thank you for the reply

 

drop the pan.. replace filter and the O-ring. Replace the pan fill with engine OFF. Start engine run thru gears. DO NOT DRIVE. Then while engine still running re-open fill plug and top off until tranny fluid starts to come out. If you check with the engine off it will come out.

 

Well found out why it would not fill. I had the filter changed about 5k ago as well as fluid. I was noticing it shifting hard so I drained fluid and tried to add new. Fluid gushed out and was not full because on the is a plastic washer of sorts that was almost gone so I had no suction at all. Fluid was only staying in the pan. I believe the garage that I had change it must have broken the piece but glued it or something. I guess I am lucky that I took notice and went about a remedy or I would have destroyed the transmission. My filter only came with one rubber o ring and the plastic ring that was already on the filter. Bought it at Orileys auto. Thanks everyone for all your help.

 

Never take the rover back to that garage.

That could have cost you a transmission.

As I have learned on my D2, there are many things that with the help of the RAVE manual and this and other forums I can do myself, and learn, have confidence in how it was done, save me money, and make me safer and more knowledgeable when on the road with my rover. Win-Win, just make sure you use jack stands when under it if jacked up, or you could lose big.

The transmission and differential service is definitely one of those you can do yourself.

Also, a mild lift will make some of those tasks a little easier in regard to getting under you truck!

 

Jfall I never will. Im 6 foot 4 and 260 lbs and my chest gets in the way of me working under my Disco on the ground. I am glad I took it to this new garage, he listened and kept in constant contact with me. I am vey pleased with his work. He was so paranoid that the morning I was coming to get it he took it for another test drive and thought the tranny was slipping so put it back on the lift and dropped the pan again and made sure he had done everything right. That to me says much. Tony I have done pretty much everything on my truck but the transmission not taking fluid worried me so I thought best to take it to a shop. I found a good guy in the process. Mine was the first Disco he ever worked on so I think he was extra cautious.Im a little **** about doing things right so its nice to meet someone else that takes pride in what they do.
