I recently had to slam hard on my brakes and evidently the weakened rear brake pipe burst. Luckily I had enough brake power left to avoid a collision. Upon inspection the 2 brake pipes that run along the top of the frame to feed the rear brakes are just as susceptible to rust as our beloved frames are. I’m taking the opportunity to replace most, if not all brake pipes and hoses along with calipers, discs and pads.
So if your frame is showing signs of rust, so too may your brake pipes be vulnerable. The most rusted section and the area that burst is between the body and frame just below the drivers area. Hard to explain why it was so isolated.
Had a similar thing happen on my '01 Discovery. Fortunately, the hard lines aren't too difficult to replace. Four hands are better than two for some of the work, though.
