Default Cigarette Lighter Mod D1/D2 (For Non Smokers):

!!Mod is for NON SMOKERS!!

Whenever I mod any of my vehicles it must be a quality mod, and it must be fully functional, and last but not least look OEM, or match the interior.

Well I started this mod because when I tore down my center console to install an 04 CDL setup into my Kalahari the OEM cigarette lighter housing fell into pieces. I found several replacements online for 30-50.00, and IMHO that is crazy. I knew the hole was 29mm so I looked online and found this.

Can Am Maverick Commander Black Dual USB Power Charger w LED | eBay

It's 29mm, it illuminates with a blue LED so you can find it at night, it has a nice rubber cap that fits snug, and it's built well. All you have to do is remove your OEM lighter, insert the new USB Port into the hole (I had to widen it just a bit), cut the OEM plug off, install some insulated connectors, place the green/white wire on the + and the black wire on the - connection and you're done. You just leave the red wire lead (OEM lighter illumination) tucked under the console. Now instead of a broken cigarette lighter you have 2 fully functional USB charging ports.

I'll post some pictures when I get my interior all back together. It's still in pieces due to running out of daylight, but I'll post some tomorrow when hopefully I can get it all back together.

NAPA has a perfect green illuminated replacement for <$10, maybe <$5.

I think the whole idea of the modification was to have a dual USB socket, not just replace the cigar lighter... Unless I missed something. Isn't the NAPA one just a stock replacement?

In my vernacular MOD doesn't = disable original function/use.

the OEM cigarette lighter housing fell into pieces
Gathered the lighter/12vdc socket inop and/or shattered/unattractive.

A current smoker or LR aficionado may want to keep more near to original.

Some use lighter socket to power other items.

There are many lighter/inserts that plug into a functional socket that provide dual USB charging for mucho less effort/bucks.

There's more than one way to cook a turkey and the taste is often different.

OP and replies with old school welcome in my world.

First off yes I DO NOT smoke, second the 5.00 little USB port Adapters DO NOT fit into a LR very well (even after bending the internal tabs to hold it better). Go down a bumpy road, look down and your little 5.00 USB Port Adapter is no longer charging unless you wiggle it just right... Pisses ya off when you've driven for an entire hour and your phone didn't charge 1%.

The function of a cigerette lighter port is really just for an air pump, and a lighter.. USB Ports that work are much more user friendly to power phones, cameras, GPS, IPod's yada, yada, yada. If u need to use an air pump my mod doesn't stop u as a D2 has a rear port that you can still use for that stuff.

I had no intention of putting a cigarette lighter back into my LR and for all those of us that don't smoke, use USB ports, and want an OEM look, then this mod is great.

I honestly thought people would like this mod, but apparently we're all supposed to smoke in our LR's...

I swapped out mine because the original DII British lighter is slightly larger than the standard size and some accessories didn't work well in it. I also pulled the console to run an always-on wire to the socket so I could charge my phone, etc. without leaving the key in the ignition and the truck unlocked (e.g. on camping trips, etc.).
