Drill screws out and replace with hardened steel Allen socket screws...ACE hardware or specialty bolt store in your area should have those type screws.

One thing that wasn't mentioned was technique using the impact screwdriver.

You don't just put it on the screw and whack it it with a hammer over and over.

You put it on there and rotate it counter-clockwise till it stops (usually 45 degrees). Then, give it one good hard whack with a small sledge. It should only take 1 or 2 whacks.

This is what did it for me except I didn't have a sledge do I did have to keep hitting over and over. All of them came loose and came out. Probably about 15-30 minutes per screw...
