Agree with the above commenters, if the truck was neglected like those pictures show, then the engine and drive train were equally neglected.

Unless you are a skilled LR mechanic and have a parts vehicle you do not want that truck for any price.

Continue shopping and spend your hard earned money wisely.

You want to find one that shows some pride of ownership.

Default Follow-Up

Folks. Thanks for the advice. Following the inspection by the LR mechanic and his advice, I passed on this one. However, now my appetite is growing for one. I will keep looking.

So, should I focus on 2002 Disco II with 100k or so miles, or seek a 2004. I understand that 2003 has a oil pump issue. I will not be doing heavy off-roading, rather coastal beach/dune and rough roads.

Take care all

My preference is a 99 and mileage isn't as big of a concern as documented maintenance history can paint a better picture of the condition of the vehicle.

The 2003 oil pump issue is long since solved. If it is still running at this point don't worry. The only other reason not to choose an 03 is the lack of CDL which it sounds like you won't need.

Good Luck!

99-02.
1st thing to do is crawl under the rear and look at the frame. Any kind of swelling and it's going to be a problem.

03-04 have the 4.6 and imo its junk.

Re: frame swelling. This was over the course of one year.
