Coolant System Bleed
#61
If you drained your coolant system or have run low on coolant...ie: have air in the system...
AND YOU HAVE AN ULTRAGAUGE...(a land rover necessity)
What I have found by being able to read the results...is that you can actually tell if there's air in the system.
My rover runs about 194-199 while driving and takes awhile to get hot enough for the fan to come on...
With that said...I changed the coolant to the green yesterday and its running 204-210...but...there was no waterfall sound when I filled it and the heat is not OVERBEARING like it should be.
What I mean by overbearing...is very hot...which is what mine usually feels like.
Mine is feeling warm but not hot like it was...since my head gasket job that I thought I botched, and the fixed hose, I have NOT added one drop nor has the level dropped which is greatly different than before the hg job.
Also...if your not parking on a hill with the truck front higher you may not get all the air.
As I get ready to leave home in the next hour I am going to reveled and also stop at lowe's. While I love the cast iron modification and I might do it...I am just going to look for a way to screw a brass valve into the plastic piece where the plastic crosstip screw is.

People do all sorts of things to "fix" cracks or popped off nipples in the plastic tanks. Usually don't last long due to the expansion/contraction of the surrounding plastic. Plumbing aisle is looking better and better.
Some people grab the wrong jug of coolant, it has happened, and they make it easy since the jugs look so much alike, stock guyz throw them on the wrong shelf, etc. To me they should be a whole different color.

I would not fix anything. Just order new.
Save a little fixing it up with hack patches and you'll pay BIG down the road later
when your Rover is a steaming mess along side the road.
Cars whizzing by.
And your wife puts your head on the wall of woe.
Spend about $300 now and fix it right or sell it if you are not serious about "getting it right" and "getting it safe".
