Cooling Rebuild, sourcing parts
These vehicles today are being purchased for pennies on the dollar compared to what they sold for new. Many of these D2's are going on 13 years old. A lot of these members will only own the vehicle for a few months to a couple of years. So if you want to find more economical parts, then go for it.
Economical does not always mean cheap. If parts can be manufactured in the states vs Scotland then there is no duty or shipping costs that get reflected in the sales price.
Do your research and make your own decision on what to purchase. I puchased a New Lifetime Warranty Radiator off of Ebay for $126 plus free shipping. It has worked as well as the factory unit. Installed with no issues. Been running it for over a year now with no problems.
It is widely known that if people run into issues with parts or suppliers they are very quick to post about it and to provide warning to others. I was one of the first posters warning about the Motorad 180 Degree Stats. I had one DOA and another that had a bad o-ring.

So far I have most of the hoses (I couldn't find the TB gasket kit on Rover's north), overflow cap, TD-5 180 degree T-stat, and the Ultra-gauge coming.
Although I have no record of the radiator being swapped, it "appears" to be good and clean. A little too clean and shiny for one that should have been in service for 14 years.
I do have a white T-stat, maybe it's a faulty motor-rad. I think I'm going to swap the stat and cap, monitor the temps when the gauge comes and actually see if the radiator is weak.

Sounds like a plan. For what it's worth, my original light green thermostat now looks kinda white. I too thought it might be a MotorRad, but ScanGauge proved otherwise. I'd install a 180 degree soft spring myself, if only the Minister of Finance would approve it (or, if I had at least not lost my job.)

Ah come on! The Spike is a fun trail because it is technical, with bypasses if necessary, and requires some modifications without being "over the top" crazy.
You can even go across the crack in 1-wheel drive (open diffs, open CDL, no traction control), you just need to be creative!

Nah, I couldn't make it over with 3 tires. Only the front wheel would spin, dang open-diff. The hatch wouldn't close because the unibody tweaked when I pulled my spare out (we thought we could get over with two). So everyone in the group had to push me over. Good times!
Cheating? No. It took a LOT more work than a 33" TJ with a functioning limited slip in the rear.
I'm wondering if a Disco could get over with TC and CDL engaged? I may never know, because I'm planning on tru-tracs before I attempt it..
Another time we attempted the crack, someone had filled it with rocks. (C'mon guys, it's one thing to use tires, another thing to pave it with boulders!).
My uncle tied a tow strap around the rocks and pulled them out with his CJ-7. Sadly, he snapped his axle because he was pulling it in reverse. We all piled in my Dad's CJ-7 (it was just the two vehicles) which ironically had a bad power steering pump (so the belt was off) and a bad U-joint in the front hub (so we ran in 2WD Low unless we hit major obstacles).
We drove out, bought an axle, drove back, fixed the CJ and returned to Moab about 10pm at night. I was not comfortable coming down that canyon pass with only headlights to guide us.
Great memories. Can't wait for my kids to make them in the disco... Hopefully their memories will be of us doing the recovering and not the breaking..
