Default Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS) Heat Shield DIY

Recently replaced my CPS and decided to take a little extra time to up the heat deflection properties of the fiberglass heat shield.

I ended up cleaning it really well, brushed on a layer of epoxy, and basically leafed aluminum foil on it. I let it cure overnight and then did a second layer. Drill out the two bolt holes and voila.

Heat transfer-wise, a bit of an air gap would provide additional insulating value. So, loosely wrapping and crinkled vs glue on would provide better heat shielding. This looks better though and is a definite improvement, reflecting radiant heat.

I cut some sheet aluminum (old license plate) and mounted it between the sensor and exhaust pipe, similar to the way some of the engine and transmission mounts are shielded. The tranny had an unused bolt hole nearby. It's good to over-protect this sensor vs under-protect.

To be fair, there's already an air gap between the sensor and the heat shield, but definitely don't see how adding another would hurt! haha
