Default crankshaft Seal install

Alright so let me get you all up to speed, the belt and harmonic balancer are off, so is the old seal
i can not get the new seal to sit , i feel like its not enough room , do i remove that metal lip somehow ? seen below with the grooves

if not does this new seal from Land Rover just sit on and compress in there ? do i just whack it in?

it slides on fine , just doesn't slip in all the way

TIA

It is a press fit and shouldn't just slide in. I just did this recently and tapped it in with a rubber mallet gently until it sat flush with the cover

Did you check the crank pulley seal surface for scoring? Depending on mileage you made need to speey-sleeve it.

Can I ask how you diagnosed the leak to the CS seal? I have a leak slinging oil everywhere. A quart every 1800 miles or so. I get 5 or 6 1" spots on the driveway every night, mostly on the driver's side area under the steering box. I just can't seem to track down the source.

Pressure wash until the oily surfaces are not oily. Drive rig as normal. Monitor area for leaks.
