D2 Buying help
I'll go ahead and swim upstream on this one.
The price is not bad, but with a salvage title you shouldn't expect to get your money out of it if you sell it.
If the seller has detailed receipts for all the work done, it might not be a bad deal. Don't let him skimp on the receipts, especially on the motor.
If I were you I would ask him if you can test drive it for a few days leaving your LR3 for collateral.
If after those few days you are ready to buy it. Take 6.5k cash and hand it to him. He will take it. He might like the car, but he likes money more. He is in the business of rovers and does not get emotionally attached. His rational is that there is always another one around the corner.
Good luck

If you are really in love with the car, put an extra 500 in your back pocket in case he doesn't bite.
Before pulling it out let him know that not only is he selling the rover for 6500 but he is gaining a new customer...

Hopefully he will let it go. Were out here in Seattle, Car looks beautiful other than the passenger side cosmetic stuff from the wreck. Engine looks beautiful. All proof of receipts. Over 15k in work done over the past 3 years. His exact words "I really need to stick to $8000. I will need to replace it with something right away, and I was planning on selling it in the first place"
Standing outside the box, price aside, provided the work and parts are all kosher and verifiable it does sound good/reasonable if that's want you want. However, $8K sounds a lot for a D2 even if it's a 2002 facelift or later. IMO I would only give $5.5K very max if it all checks out OK. People always say well 'it's got this and that' on it but the reality is a dunger or non runner is worth scrap value so it's only worth the equivalent of a running D2 for it's year.
PS I've just read your last post, never be taken in a feel obliged to any vehicle vendor. There are hundreds of good D2's around without the baggage for far less. If the vendor paid over the top that's his problem not yours and maybe you'll be subsidising his new (ambitious) vehicle purchase as well.

Cosmetic damage would be a deal breaker for me. Paint work is ridiculous. Especially for quality. Unless they are just panels that need to be replaced I wouldn't touch it. And even then,no way on 8k.
At this point you could buy a decent(mechanically and nice cosmetically) one for 3-4k,then start saving for a motor build.

Maybe the guy at the indy shop "owns" it because the previous owner could not pay the bill. If thats the case then 8k is high.
Then again, you could buy a $5k truck and add all that gear and be in it way over 8k.
Both ways you still have a 15 year old truck with a rebuild title...
In my opinion, which is not the most popular obviously, if the truck has a good engine, problems addressed, maintenance up to date, AND all those accessories it would be a better truck than most any stock D2 with the same miles regardless of the title.
If you've driven the truck and love it, then do it and forget about what people "think" its worth.
