While I do think 8K is a bit much for a D2 with a rebuilt title....if it does not appear to have any serious frame damage and if the motor was done right, you'll be fine.

I have bought a D2 that originated in the PNW w/ 120K on it, head job, and full receipts and it has been the best 4500 I spent. Super clean, no issues through one of the worst NY winters, and the body & frame is clean... I have also spent 6500 on a NE D2 with full receipts and a rebuilt motor and it has been my biggest headache. The frame/body....so-so...for anyone reading this - don't buy a D2 anywhere near NYS or any part of the NE!!!

If it's clean and runs great...good for you. You'll will find D2's are in such a price range that you get plenty of cheapo's out there trying to be ghetto fabulous that will bitch and moan about everything......they are mostly kids, so take their comments with a grain of salt. Same goes with their suggestions, inputs and fixes. (any hateful comments following this post will point them out!)

Used car prices are outrageous. So if you get a D2 that your happy with for 8K - smile and walk away. I bought my 1st D2 as a potential toy, but the lady stole it from me simply because it's a land rover and she enjoyed the classic SUV looks & feel. So I got another to start playing with and you know what - I'm down 11K, she's happy, I'm happy and it's still cheaper then one year of a lease or new car payment!

Just two basic rules for D2 ownership - you have to expendable cash for repairs (a few hundo can't hold you back for weeks), and you truely have to enjoy wrenching on vehicles as a hobby! Oh ya - if you can find a cheap D2 w/ a blown motor for dirt cheap and have room - get it - nothing better than having a parts vehicle.

Best of luck to you!
Thanks man! The other sale fell through, found another though

78k miles,
Land Rover Special
it was ORIGINALLY a NE car, but the underbody looked great. Ran like a champ
Interior really nice, no tears, sunroofs don't leak (yet) and the headliner was completely in place
Has all the bells and whistles,
GPS,
ARB Bumper with 10,000 Warn Winch
Expedition Rack, Rear Flood light, 4 front Hellas, Ladder, light guards all around, clean body with no damage

Picking it up tomorrow! (Hopefully he won't change his mind) Got it for $5500

Sale went through! It's pretty much a G4 vehicle. Safari rack with shovel, axe, jack. Also came factory with ARB Bumper and Warn Winch. It also came
With 2 spare tires. It's also an HSE model, so it has rear backup indicators and HID Headlights. It's 2003 and with only 78k miles, it has a leaky oil pan, slightly leaking heads, and a TC Gasket leak. Everything else is good. Drove it an hour on the interstate today without an issue. Front Driveshaft was still stock so I got a HD Driveshaft on order. ialso ordered a new rotoflex for the rear shaft. Coils and shocks were shot, so got a terrafirma AT 2" suspension lift with HD Coils and steering dampener. Slotted brake rotors with pads coming in. Planning on getting new tranny fluid and filter with a new gasket. Did an oil change and Throttle body cleaning. A LOT HAS HAPPENED IN A DAY haha

What else would you guys recommend?

you might want to get the engine/ drivetrain straighten out completely before throwing all the suspension stuff on?
A CDL and shifter, also might want to re-think the TF damper, it does not allow you wheel to self center.

Explain the CDL and Shifter? And I would forget about the suspension, but it was one horribly bumpy ride for that hour. Thinking of renting a uhaul and towing it back instead of driving it, figure out everything once we get back to TN. Not to worried about the dampener, already has an Old Man Emu dampener on it

Since you have an OME damper, i'll bet your incredibly bumpy ride could be an HD OME kit. Thats how they roll. You feel every seam and pebble in the road, yet at the same time glide over dirt washboard at high speed like it was nothing.

From the looks of its they are Billstein Shock, coils are yellow in color but can't determine the brand. Front end sags more then the rear. Lots of play in the suspension as far as rocking the car back and forth just with the force of my body.

Going to clean the IACV tomorrow cause I'm getting some rough idle. Wish me luck! Completely different beast from the D3
