People always say well 'it's got this and that' on it but the reality is a dunger or non runner is worth scrap value so it's only worth the equivalent of a running D2 for it's year.

PS I've just read your last post, never be taken in a feel obliged to any vehicle vendor. There are hundreds of good D2's around without the baggage for far less. If the vendor paid over the top that's his problem not yours and maybe you'll be subsidising his new (ambitious) vehicle purchase as well.
I feel where your coming from, but MOST D2's in good condition with 100k or less are going for $4,000+ AT LEAST. Most are going for $6,000 out here if the heads gaskets are done.

So your saying I should buy a $4,000 D2, then put $6,000 into it when the engine goes? And still be without a new Trans Case or Rebuilt Tranny?

IMO stock trucks in good order with history are worth buying but someone elses messed with project is a no no unless it's real cheap. Bolt ons are worthless unless it'sexactly what you're looking for and Ebay is full of cheapo used bolt ons.
Found an 03 disco with 73k maintenance recorded, Wanting $7,000. Better deal?

Nope. Unless prices stay high in the pacific northwest. My latest is a 2003, current maintenance including head gasket. No wrecks, claims or damage. It is an S trim package. I gave $3300.00 its got 87k on the clock, 60k on factory replacment motor. Keep looking.

Prices in the pacific northwest have always been and are still highest in the nation. And there are a lot of them on the road running just fine.

In reality when you buy a used Land Rover you are paying pennies on the dollar compared to new and still pretty much get a high dollar premium ride.

So when you are getting a $40k vehicle for cheap what really is the diff between 4k and 8k in the big picture as long as the the maintenance is up to snuff.

It's not like any of us hope to one day sell our trucks and make a profit off them, no we generally intend to own and use them accordingly as long as proper replacement parts are available.

Finally, if a few thousand dollars matters that much to you, You are NOT the person who should be owning a Land Rover.

Exactly how I feel, especially with 10k on a new motor with High Hats, new trans case and rebuilt tranny

I really can't believe what I am reading. $8k?!? For a truck with body damage and a rebuilt/whatever title AND an engine swap?!? These trucks are GARBAGE and you are seriously considering tossing $8k at a wrecked truck with a heart transplant? Am I the only one that thinks this is ridiculous?

These are $3k trucks, $6k absolutely tops! And I am not talking about ASKING PRICE. I am talking about what they are worth.

I am really totally shock that even one person on this forum is suggesting that this is a deal to be concidered. A truck with body damage, rebuilt title and a transplant; $8k. Have any of you actually had any experience with a motor swap? Have you owned a used vehicle with a "new" motor? It's not like slapping a new set of tires on and saying
"That oughta get me 50k more miles!!" It simply never works out that way, never.

Read this out loud and if it sound sane to you go ahead buy it:

" I am going to pay $8k for a 12/13 year old Land Rover with 1xx,xxx miles on it, rebuilt title, unrepaired body damage and a motor transplant."

Since your apparently the most experienced person here with rebuilt Moros with high hats on the 03-04 model DII, tell me your experience with them?
