Default D2a facelift, handbrake cable adjustment.

D2a facelift, handbrake cable adjustment.

Hi, pin back ya ears and take note. Don't bother to rip out all of the centre console et al, the handbrake adjuster isn't there, it's underneath the truck buried at the top of the trans tunnel. There are two nuts, the top one is 21mm and the lower is 16mm which is attached/integral to the threaded adjuster. Hold the top 21mm nut and turn the 16mm nut anticlockwise one turn at a time. Be sure to test the brakes for any 'binding' so ensure the all the wheels are on axle stands with the handbrake off. When the handbrake achieves only 3 clicks STOP, it's then correctly adjusted. Have fun, good luck and wear safety glasses to avoid the falling road ****e in your eyes.

You can also turn a giant nut on the back of the Ebrake assembly itself to tighten the shoes up against the drum.

Hi Best4x4, yep, I've done that already but that only adjusts the brake shoes but not the brake cable, particularly if it's stretched over the years.

Yeah those cables are sometimes a PITA. I've bought 2 D2's that didn't even have the darn cable after someone sawed em off vs replace em.

The handbrake cable can be a real PITA on the facelift D2's but to hold the top 21mm nut I found the best tool was a bath/basin nut wrench and using a 16mm crows foot wrench using a 3/8" 450mm drive wobble extension. The day before though spray the area with penetrating fluid and then again the day you decide to 'attack' the job.

Trying to find the second nut you were referring to? This is a picture of my cable and there is only one nut on the cable extending from out of the body.

Trying

to find the second night you’re referring to? This is a picture of my cable and there is only one not on the bottom of the cable extending from the body.
