Question D2a TD5 - power/torque limit for the automatic transmission

I have a 2003 Land Rover Discovery HSE TD5 automatic. I have been told that there is a limit to the amount of power or torque that the engine can put out before the automatic gearbox sensing this freaks out and puts the vehicle into limp home mode. Anyone know what this level is?

What sort of performance engine mods have people done to a vehicle such as this in order to walk as close to that line without crossing it?

All we have here in the US are gasoline (petrol) versions and there are no performance mod's available for the V8.

EGR removal is first on the list. intercooler can be swapped out for larger one. check out "TD5 alive" for stage 1,2, or 3 chip remap. LPG to run with diesel gives more power for same throttle position plus ups mpg well into 30's. "Twisted performance" do a nice sports exhaust. I'm told 200bhp is possible
