Default So should I limit my search to 2001?

Well, the loan package I got puts me in a wierd search mode. I was wanting to get a loan for 7,500 max and try to come in below that for a Series II. Was searching 99-01 so I could do a CDL.

The loan package winds up being for a minimum of 7,500 up to 15K but I have to buy a 2001 or newer with under 70K miles. It also has to come from a "franchised" dealer unless I convert to an individual purchase.

I'm still hoping to come in under 10K for my purchase but I'm finding the some of the newer models in the 12-14K range tempting.

Thing is a 2002-03 doesn't allow me to do a CDL. I'm trying to decide how big of a deal that is. I probably wouldn't bother to put one in for a couple years at least. Not planning on doing any serious wheeling for awhile. Not more than an easy class 2 trail until I pay it off.

I'm just sick that I missed out on a killer deal in Clearwater, FL. A 2001 SE7 with roof rack, auxillary lighting and an ARB bumper with on 38K miles for $14,990.

I would go down and talk to some of the credit unions...I was offered one of those loans and said no way in ****. Try to find one at a dealership and talk to them about getting a loan...I think the one you have probably is one of those high interest ones right?

Actually, with my credit the interest isn't bad. The loan isn't really bad but the parameters for what the'll let me use it on are a bit restrictive.

Not a member of a CU but might go talk to one about joining if they'd give mebetter terms.

I am pretty sure the 03 is the only year without CDL in the case. I made my own CDL linkage for my 2000, it works good. You can also swap in the later headlights if you want.

According to Rover Parts model years 01-03 don't have the right t-case so my question seems to be moot anyway: http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/CDLKD2.cfm

Well that is good to hear about your interest rate nowadays when they set the restricitions they have nice high interest rate to boot.Normally a CU will run you thru for an approval and if you are approved then they ask for normally 25 bucks to open an account so you can get the loan.

I have a 2000 disco that I just purchased and I havent had the want to do the CDL linkage. I think it is all about what are you wanting to use it for.If you are wanting aniceoff road vehicle that you can upgrade with the linkage then I would look for eithera 2000 or a 2003. I find the rule of thumb when buying a used vehicle is no more then 7 yearsold. That is when they start asking more questionsabout the loan and etc. But good luck on the search.

Hmmm. Might be fate. This one is just outside Chattanooga, TN. I'll be up there this weekend for a convention. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=230532070

Might see if I could get them to take something closer to $8K.

First what are you going to want to do with the truck, if you plan any mods for lockers, gea, HD axles or anything regarding extra traction you need CDL. That limits you to a 99, 2000 or the fist 3 months perduction on the 2001.

First what are you going to want to do with the truck,
I was having a realistic discussion with my wife about intended use. It'll be my primary driver for several years so I plan to leave it bone stock. It will haul people, stuff and tow things mostly.

It might see light trail use for camping trips but nothing hard core. Not going to risk bashing up a body panel on our tight, greasy Southeastern trails. If I want to do harder core wheeling I have the CJ-7 for that.

I really want the 7 seater because ever since we became parents we've been involved in chaperoning the youth group at Church and there's always lots of folks to haul.
